Our Story

Over 6,000 jobs in Whatcom County are impacted or supported by the maritime sector. The women and men on our waterfronts work hard each and every day to build, design, repair, supply, and maintain our many commercial and recreational boats.

The Whatcom Working Waterfront Foundation develops and supports educational programs to enhance the maritime sector of Whatcom County. The Foundation is affiliated with the Working Waterfront Coalition. The Coalition, with over 140 members, promotes the economic vitality of our working waterfronts.

Goals

In collaboration with working waterfront businesses, educational and government entities, and our public, we will:

Develop a trained and competent workforce by supporting / developing Educational and Training programs including:

  • Educational/Academic

  • Apprenticeship and Training

  • Career Exploration/Preparation activities for youth and under-represented populations

Support / develop programs that preserve and enhance the marine environment and maritime heritage/culture.
