On the shores of Blaine-by-the Sea, MERIS:
Elevates the community and region by connecting and capitalizing on existing human, natural and built resources unique to the area.
Provides avenues for addressing important local, regional, national, and transboundary issues such as water quality, habitat conservation/restoration, and sustainable production of shellfish, finfish, and kelp.
Creates opportunities for concept testing, innovation, workforce training in aquaculture, fisheries, and related blue innovations
Results in direct reinvestment of intellectual capital and research applicable to the Salish Sea and urbanizing coastal communities.
With support from the Builders Initiative, the Project Timeline (2025) includes:
Planning Session – gather input and feedback from many people (Spring)
Synthesize Feedback – solidify Mission/Vision and develop Project Scope (Summer)
Develop Action Plan – form Board of Directors and Management/Business/Funding Plan (Fall)
